Police evacuate neighbors during standoff found fake

REPRINTED COURTESY OF THE SENTINEL

January 29, 2007

A Maryland man was charged Sunday after police say he lied about his ex-girlfriend being held against her will by an armed man in Carlisle.

Borough police say at 12:05 p.m. Sunday, Delonte Gomez, 25, reported that he got a call from Jennifer Garrison, who told him that she was being held against her will at her home by Vincent Flemister, 19.

Police responded to her home in the 100 block of West North Street, where they were unable to get anyone to answer the door, they say.

Police evacuated several neighbors and closed part of West North Street to secure the area. Just after 1 p.m., Flemister opened the door and was arrested without incident, police say.

Then officers then went inside the public housing apartment, where Garrison said she wasn’t being held against her will and didn’t realize police were outside knocking, using their sirens and a bullhorn to try to alert the couple.

Flemister, of Harrisburg, was nevertheless taken to Carlisle Central Booking Center, because he had previously been barred from public housing, and he was charged with trespass and a parole violation. Police say he was on parole from a drug conviction.

Gomez is charged with false reports after they discovered he is Garrison’s estranged boyfriend and was angry about her relationship with Flemister. Carlisle police continue to investigate the incident. North Middleton and Middlesex township police and the Carlisle Family Housing Office assisted during the incident.
