Freak Fall Kills Carlisle Man

REPRINTED COURTESY OF THE SENTINEL

By The Sentinel Staff, July 9, 2006

A Carlisle man died Tuesday in an unusual accident at a North Bedford Street home.

A Cumberland County Coroner's Office press release says Mark Trimble, 31, of Henderson Street "apparently fell from a ground-level porch and landed on the broken handle of a pick that was standing upright in the yard" about 11 p.m.

The release says an autopsy shows the cause of death was "the perforating chest wound received when the handle impaled his chest."

Coroner Michael Norris says Trimble likely didn't see the wooden pick handle.

He says unsuccessful resuscitation efforts were attempted by the people at the scene before emergency personnel arrived.

Trimble died at the scene, the coroner says.

Carlisle police and the coroner's office are continuing to investigate.
