The Carlisle Police Departments Criminal Investigative Division currently consists of 4 detectives. Detectives are highly skilled in interviewing and investigative techniques.  Detectives routinely work on cases that are time intensive, such as incidents that involve multiple interviews and interrogations, records tracking, and evidence processing. Detectives are also involved in specialized crimes such as drug related crimes, organized crime activity, and incidents involving fraud and identity theft.

Detectives have a wide variety of techniques available in conducting investigations. However, the majority of cases are solved by the interviews of suspects and the interviewing of witnesses and cooperating individuals, which takes time. Evidence collection and preservation can also help in identifying a potential suspect(s).
