Parking

Carlisle Borough offers many parking options whether working or visiting in town. Below is a description of the various parking options the Borough offers along with an explanation of parking enforcement tickets.

Pomfret Street Garage

The Pomfret Street garage began operations in December 1999. Of the 225 spaces available, approximately 120 are available for daily use. Rates for daily use are $.50/hour with a maximum of $5.00 per day. The daily rate after 5:00 p.m. and for special events approved by Borough Council is $1.00 until 12:00 a.m. and prevailing rates thereafter. Hotel guests park in the Pomfret Street Lot at the rate of $3.00 per day per room. In addition, Cumberland County provides a free parking permit to jurors for which they reimburse the borough at the rate of $3.00 per permit.

Metered Parking

There are currently 733 metered spaces on-street and in selected parking lots in the downtown. 507 silver, or short-term meters have a two hour limit and metered at the rate of $.50 per hour . The remaining 226 meters are long-term or gold meters which have a ten hour limit and are metered at the rate of $.25 per hour. Both meters have a free 15-minute “turn” which provides 15 minutes of free parking for short duration stops. A small number of these meters are for handicapped persons only and five meters along Hanover Street havin red tops with a 30-minute limit for visiting nearby take-out shops.

Leased Parking

Carlisle Borough has a number of leased spaces throughout six parking lots and in the Borough garage. Individuals desiring information on leased space availability and cost should contact the Borough Parking Coordinator or call 717.249.4422.

Green Tickets

Green tickets are issued by the Carlisle Borough Police Department for various parking offenses. Green tickets include such violations as parking in the area during times of street cleaning, parking on private property, and parking in such a manner that creates a traffic hazard. Fines for this type of ticket are $15.00 if paid within 72 hours of the issue time. See below for payment options and centers.

Yellow Tickets

Yellow tickets are issued as a result of parking at an expired meter. This type of parking ticket is issued by Carlisle Police Department Parking Enforcement Officers. Fines for this type of ticket range from $5.00 to $10.00. See below for payment options and centers.

Payment Centers

If you receive one of the tickets described above you may submit payment by placing the amount requested in the parking ticket envelope and submitting the ticket in person at the Borough Hall, Police Department, or by mail. For your convenience, traf-o-teria boxes are located on W. Church Ave., Mulberry Ave., and in the W. Louther St. parking lot next to the US Post Office. If paying by check, please make checks payable to the "Borough of Carlisle."
